1) United States Marine Corps vs United States Navy vs United States Coast Guard

I've read some articles on wikipedia and found out that the USMC are amphibious while the UNNavy is specialized in water while the USCG chiefly protect the coast of their country. But if the former two overlap each other at the water specialization, why don't the government abandon the redudant Navy and concentrate on consolidating the Marine Corps?

2) We say: in a funeral or at a funeral?

1. Marines have a different role to the navy. They are really land-based fighters but can access the land from the sea from their own vessels, bringing land vehicles with them. They would also fight in areas where you might need small boats etc, for example swampy areas, as the best troops to deal with both land and water. They don't have the big battleships etc that the navy has and they don't fight other ships/submarines etc. The navy never fights on land.

2. at a funeral.

1) So why don't the US create a "Land soldier" altogether?
2) Oxford defines cortege as" a line of cars or people moving along slowly at a funeral " while Longman says"a line of people or cars that move along slowly in a funeral "
