Is there a difference between determinant and article? Are they both considered to be adjectives (as far as parts of speech is concerned)?
As I remember it, articles are considered to be adjectives.
Determinants, on the other hand, are considered by some grammarians to have their own part of speech.
Am I correct? Could anyone rectify my assumptions if I’m mistaken?
In the following sentence:
This is Mr. Brown _________ invention had helped hundreds of disabled people.
A. which
B. that
C. who
D. whose
Why is “whose” the right answer? Could anyone explain this to me in clear, simple terms?
Also, in the following sentence:
Professor Black had us ________ composition every Friday.
A. to write
B. write
C. written
D. wrote
Now according to my book the answer is B. It sounds good to me, but why is A wrong.
Professor Black had us to write composition every Friday.
Or:
My mother had us to eat breakfast every day of the week.
Is it really grammatically wrong?
