Hi,
Do all of the above sound right and mean about the same to you? Thanks.

Hi,
Tom wanted to buy a game machine.
...                          a playing machine.
...                          a game. A game is what you play on the machine or device.
...                          a game player.

Do all of the above sound right and mean about the same to you?

I assume you are referring to computer games?
None of these phrases sound good to me. I hear things like 'Tom wanted to buy an Xbox'.

Best wishes, Clive
