(1) A loud noise damages your ear(s).

(2) A loud noise hurts your ear(s).

Which is better, (1) or (2)?
Also, should the 'ear' be plural?

Damages is better, because "hurt" is somewhat correlated to pain, while a loud noise can damage your ears without make you feel any pain.

Everything ends badly. Otherwise it wouldn't end.

damage is more proper to use. it means stop sth from functioning properly.

How about this: A loud noise can damage your hearing.

That is more common.

Barbara, who answers in American English. My housekeeping skills attest to the truth of the second law of thermodynamics: Left to themselves, things get more and more random!

Definitely better, if the word "ear" is not compulsory to use.
