Hi can some please review my answers to the following question, and amend where necessary.

Look at this sentence carefully:

He breathed deeply with sheer delight, splashed noisily from the little island, and ran off whistling in the pelting rain.

Now name three of each of the following parts of speech: (my answers in brackets in red font)

  1. Verbs (breathed, splashed, ran, whistling)
  2. Nouns (delight, island, rain)
  3. Adjectives (little, sheer, pelting)
  4. Adverbs (deeply, noisiliy, off) - not sure about "off"
  5. Prepositions (with, from, in)

Hi,

can some please review my answers to the following question, and amend where necessary.

  3. Adjectives (little, sheer, pelting)
  4. Adverbs (deeply, noisiliy, off) - not sure about "off"

'Off' can be used as an adverb and as a preposition, but here it's used as an adverb.

  5. Prepositions (with, from, in)

Best wishes, Clive
