In this sense a crush is an immature sort of 'love' and it isn't really considered real love. For a start, it only goes one way - one person has a crush on another but the other doesn't feel the same way. Also, it tends to be something that young people get - a sort of rehearsal of feelings for when they are older. It needn't be a very romantic feeling, some youngsters develop a crush that tends to be more admiration/fascination.

The name says it all.

For instance, a schoolgirl might have a crush on her teacher, or on a rock star.  You can have a crush on someone without actually knowing them very well -- but you wouldn't seriously claim to love someone if you didn't actually know them personally.

crush
a strong feeling of romantic love for someone, especially one that a young person has for someone older who they do not know well [↪ infatuation]:
She  had a huge crush on her geography teacher.
It's  just  a school girl  crush.

American English informal someone who you have a feeling of romantic love for, but who you do not know well:
a first date with your crush

In Bridge to Terabithia, the protagonist, Jesse, has a crush on his young music teacher.

Success - it is not the position where you are standing, but which direction you are going.
