Hello there, ^ ^

I ran into those phrases and am curious what those things mean.

I have some guesses for each but am not sure they are right.

So, would anyone help me to understand them?

Here are my guesses.

1. a twist in the tale:

A tale is slightly distorted or has a different story from the original over the years.

2. car workshop

Is this a place to sell cars or a place to fix them?

3. shaved ice dessert

From the pictures on websites, it looks like some ice creams that people can eat with some flat stick or spoon(?).

Am I right?

I wonder what the meaning of "shaved" is in this context.

Some picture shows an ice cream of cone type which I guess has no need to use stick or spoon. So... I am confused.

Thanks a lot for helping me in advance!  *^^*

Hi,

I ran into those phrases and am curious what those things mean.

I have some guesses for each but am not sure they are right.

So, would anyone help me to understand them?

Here are my guesses.

1. a twist in the tale:

A tale is slightly distorted or has a different story from the original over the years. Maybe. 'An unexpected and surprising development in the story'.

2. car workshop

Is this a place to sell cars or a place to fix them? To fix them. We usually say this in other ways, eg 'the garage'.

3. shaved ice dessert

From the pictures on websites, it looks like some ice creams that people can eat with some flat stick or spoon(?). It's not ice-cream. I'm not really familiar with this, but I think of it as very thin wafers of ice, shaved (scraped) from a block of ice by something sharp, and then flavoured with a sweet liquid.

Best wishes, Clive

Thanks!

And those two things, car workshop and shaved ice dessert are from Singapore! I mean, the context, the place where they are is  Singarpore.
