There were 5 birds on the tree. A hunter came and shot all (of them) except 3. How many birds left on the tree?

The answer is 2.

This is because the only birds that remain are the 2 dead ones. The others flew away.

However, an hour later, there were 5 birds. Because the 3 came back for the funeral of the 2 dead birds.
