Is the below use of 'an' as opposed to 'a' correct?

It's a Ford Focus on an 02 plate...

It's a Ford Focus on an 02 plate...

The digit '0' is pronounced as 'oh' . Therefore, it is correct to say an 02 plate.

If you read the digit '0' as zero, then it should be a 02 plate.
