What does 'upstander' mean?      I don't think you can find the definition of this word in any dictionary. But if anyone ever knows Holocaust, I think this word may relate to that.  Thanks for replies.

A quick googling got me: A bystander can be described as an individual or an institution who is aware of the victimization of others and chooses to do nothing. Conversely, an upstander is an individual or an institution that, recognizing the victimization of others, chooses to act on their behalf.

'The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'which is to be master-- that's all.'

Not at all familiar with the word "upstander" - the closest word that I am familiar with is "upstanding" and it relates to a law abiding, trustworthy person.  For example:  "Mark is an upstanding citizen of the community".
