Hi,
I am currently preparing a paper with lot's of large numbers in it. What is the abbrevation for million and billion, could that be m and bn? Wouldn't m be reservered for "metres"?
Thanks a lot for any advice.

I believe those are the right abbreviations. In the context of your paper, it is unlikely that your audience will confuse the m of million with the m of meter. If it's a science paper, you could use scientific notation. If you're writing about finances, the numbers would be marked by currency symbols. Just be sure to make clear the context in which you use m.
