Scenario:

A- John bought a 2000 sf. house last year to be closer to his work for $500,000 thinking it was a good 

     price. The value dropped 40% this year!

B- That's brutal! (meaning getting tragically, savagely beaten)

There was a similar bad situation as above described in the second reply. But I can not remember what it is about exactly. One guy said " That's brutal"! Are there any other colloquial meanings ?
