But this answer would only be OK in the USA, as these terms are not used in Britain (at least not when I lived there).

What about the question, "What year are you in?"

In casual conversation it might even be shortened to "what year are you?"

In AmE, we would say: "I'm a senior in college."

You can just say: "What year are you?" (Though "Which year are you?" is more correct)

Hi,

But if the question is 'What year are you (in)?', the speaker already knows you are in college or university so I think the answer would more likely be simply

I'm a senior (sophomore, junior, or freshman) ~~at university~~.
