e.g Our plane flew above the clouds.

if i use over instead of above,what is the different between the two prepositions?on the other hand, under is equal with beneath or below?

If you use over it can mean that the plane crossed the area where the clouds were, as if you say "the plane flew over the Sahara", while if you use above it means that the plane was higher than the clouds.

Below (opposed to above) implies that something is anywhere in a lower position than another, anywhere.

Under (opposed to over) denotes vertical line and covering (under a tree, under the bed)

Beneath is an equivalent of both, below and under. Literary use.

Another difference between over and above is how literarely it is. Over is actually directly above. For example the lamp over you. and the umbrella over you. where above is more vague about exactely the position of the thing you are referring to is. the stars above you. or the plain flew above the clouds. (which clouds? where? is vague.)
