What are the acceptable qualifications for an international EFL post?

I have a University Degree in English Language and Literature from an accredited University in my home country, Greece and eleven years' experience. I would welcome the opportunity to work abroad for a number of years, but have no knowledge of the sort of qualifications required (both inside and outside the EU) and no inkling on where to start.

Any help will be appreciated.

Some days you're the windshield, some days you're the bug.

hi Keyser

It would be worth your while looking at gettting a private qualifiaction in ESL/EFL teaching.

There are well known ones, such as CELTA, TEFL and Trinity.
Some posts, especially in Eastern Europe allow you to do the qualifcation as a pre-requisite to the job.

Also an extra bonus could be a qualification that states your level of English, such as Cambridge certicicates or IELTS.

Try your hand at this and endeavour to get into the Uni later. It has taken me 6 years before getting anything connected with the Universities where I live. Some of this was bad luck, but also there is a lack of flexibility inherent in most systems.

If you want to work at a Uni, they are even harder to get into with just a normal degree. You may want to consider the International School system as a start. http://www.islondon.com/ or http://www.intschool-leipzig.com/

The Universities can be protective of home grown tutors, as well as their system.

Good Luck!
