The word 'laugh' is a noun in that sentence.

The word laugh is either a noun or a verb, never an adjective or adverb. If it follows a possessive pronoun (which could be substituted with the definite article) it must be a noun.

Words with the "ly" suffix are adverbial.

Hi,

Rules may be dangerous in English, because exceptions can (generally) be found.

"Lovely," "friendly" and "likely," for instance, are adjectives.

Hello there!

but there are Adverbs of time and manner as well, often without "ly".

At that point how should we recognize Adverb: Like this confuse sentence "before" is adverb or preposition?

I plan to start writing before six o'clock each morning.

Could any one tell me

I plan to start writing before six o'clock each morning.

Before is preposition or Adverb of time ?

 And this sentence as well

Both Sheran and I wanted the last piece of custard.

Is this a direct object ?
