I think that "bring" is used incorrectly. It should be "bringing". Is what I think correct? Thanks.

Today advertising is a big business. Producers as well as consumers should be thankful for what advertising [brings to them / does for them].

Sorry.  I don't understand the question.  The function?  The words what advertising brings to them is a noun phrase acting as the object of a preposition.  Is that what you wanted to know?
