So this is what i've come up with. Please please anyone who can give me any advices it's really important that i finish this. It's not only for my university but also for a migrational process.

Here it goes:

Zürich, December 20th 2006

Dear Sir or Madam,

I graduated from the “Universidad de las Americas” in Puebla, Mexico, in May 2004, obtaining the master degree in Food Science. After analyzing the different postgraduate programs available, I decided to apply at the Johannes Kepler University in Linz where I was accepted. As a result I spent the last 2 years studying and working additionally as a research assistant. It was during this period where I realized the importance that nutrition science plays in my field and decided to continue my education on this area.

Nutrition is a very complex science, not only it involves the interpretation of scientific knowledge about food in relation to health and disease meaning eventually being able to translate the theoretical information into practical to be able to help people change their eating habits to improve their health and prevent them from acquiring diet-related diseases. But also understanding the social and psychological factors that influence what people eat. Obviously the above mentioned plays an immensely important role in the Food Science area, because not only must a competent food scientist be able to assure the chemical and microbiological quality of a product or process while meeting the consumers demands but also a certain nutritional quality must be achieved to assure the consumers health and prevent possible chronic diseases.

When the time came to choose a university where to continue with my education, there were no doubts for me that the ETH University in Zürich was the “one”. Mainly, two were the reasons behind my decision: first my knowledge of the high academical standards at the ETH University together with the long tradition at teaching technical studies. But my predominant reason was my awareness of the very important research done by Prof. Dr. Richard Hurrell and his research group all over the world. Especially the intervention studies carried out in different population groups in the fortification of special foods with essential nutrients and the importance of these studies in the prevention and treatment of the affected population.

Therefore I know that the opportunity of studying the Master in Advance Studies in Nutrition and Health at the ETH University in Zürich will give me the possibility not only to learn the principles responsible for the relationship between nutrition and health but also the ability of determining possible effective strategies to overcome the target problems/.
