Is ees'thetik the phonetic(s) for aesthetic in British English? I found this in some dictionary. Please clarify.

Yes, it is indeed pronounced with a long /i/ sound in British English; but I think the /es/ variant is also very common.

Hello Folks:

I was corrected years ago by a prominent art director that the "th" in "aesthetic" should be pronounced with just the "t"..For example, "Ees-t-etic".

Is the "th" in "aesthetic" pronounced with a "tha" or just a "t"?

Another example would be pronouncing the "THAMES" river. Instead of saying "tha" you pronounce it like, "temes" like you would say "temple".

Please help me settle this argument with my hotshot copywriter nephew who believes it should be pronounced with a "tha".

Thanks!

The 'th' part in aesthetic is  pronounced awith a fortis fricative  /θ/. Thames is pronounced  with a normal alveolar /t/, just like Anthony.end_ph>
