Hi Teachers,

Filling in a test I came across the sentence below whose solution I don’t understand.

I was afraid ... into the house because I was afraid … bitten by the dog.

A.)    to go, of being

B.)    of going, to be

I chose "B" but the correct answer would have been "A". I can’t see the difference between them. Can you explain why "A" is better then "B" for this sentence?

Thank you

Because afraid takes only the of +-ing form for the passive voice (I was afraid of being bitten), while the active voice can take either form (I was afraid to go / of going into the house), only A is correct.
