The sofa went against that wall before we had the radiator put in.

I don't know the meaning of "against the wall" in this sentence. Also, I wonder what is the use of "before" in this context.

Pleaase help me.

We had a radiator put in at the place where the sofa used to be. It (the sofa) was positioned against the wall, that is its back was touching the wall.

Thank you very much Pieanne.

I understood the "against the wall". But still I find difficult in understanding the sentence because of the use of "before" there.

Could you explain it in other way?

The sofa went against that wall before we had the radiator put in

Let's say up until 2006, they had a sofa against the wall. But in January 2007, they put a radiator against that very wall, so now the sofa is somewhere else.

The "before" refers to the time when there was no radiator.

Thank you very much Pieanne. Now I can understand it.
