ALERT

Awaiting police conference on capture of Nicholas Sheler

Hi,
I ran across the above on FoxNews, and I'm not very sure of its meaning, espicially ALERT. Does "ALERT" in the above refer to "warning" or "Breaking news?" Your help!!! Thanks.
