I know 'bum', in slang, refers to the buttocks

This is BrE, Sunil. In AmE, a "bum" is a loafer or a homeless person, or someone of little worth. To call someone "a bum " is an insult.

Dear Abbie,
I am talking of BrE only. Oxford dictionary refers to 'bum' as "noun Brit. informal a person’s bottom." Moreover, it is very common in India to refer to a person as a 'bum', thereby meaning 'bugger', which, incidentally, in slang, means to have sexual intercourse as well as it also refers to the person performing the act. But I fully agree 'bum' is not a perfect substitute for the words. I cannot be polite as well as mean exactly what I intend to say, simultaneously!
Regards

1 more thing. Oxford gives "SHAG" to be a brit. slang for having sexual intercourse. Is the word ever used in American english as a slang for masturbating? Because, I find that word being used in the sense of WANK quite commonly here in india. Can you explain that?

So far I haven't read any Am.E or Br.E books where "shag" is used in that meaning...

I'm glad to help, but I'm not a native! And please excuse my typos...

Lynx, you are right. In India, shag is used as slang for masturbating. Please remember, that slang varies from region to region, just like gestures. A slang dictionary is a compilation of the meanings and it need not be universal.

Calling someone a "w@nker" is quite common. It can be friendly or it can be abusive, dependent on the circumstances. Obviously it refers only to a male.

Referring to a female you could say "c*nt". (*=u)
She is a c*nt. You are a c*nt. And, frequently, about someone you REALLY dislike: "She is a f*cking c*nt".

The word is a slang term for vagina. So is "pussy" but this word is more an term of endearment as in "I like to lick her pussy". Note that "Pussy" also refers to a cat or to a person who is inoffensive as in "He won't hurt you; he's a pussy cat".

I think I've also heard "Pussy" referring to an old lady ("an old pussy").
Is that right?
