Can you say an hotel or is it a hotel

An is used before words beginning with a vowel sound, and most people pronounce the h in hotel; therefore, use a.

The pronunciaion  of humble varies from person to person: a humble man (h is prounounced); an humble man (h is not pronounced).

Philip is right.  An is used before the words that begins with a vowel , A  goes before all words that begin with consonants.

To the best of my knowledge, it was correct to say 'an hotel' because in the past the 'h' was silent. However, in modern English, the 'h' is pronounced. Hence, it should be 'a hotel'.

Hi Begae,

Consider this.

An is used before the words that begin with a vowel sound.

Thus, we say

an ugly man

a unique woman

an hour

Best wishes, Clive
