Animal Idioms

Do you know when to use these idioms?

1. to smell a rat

2. to be a night owl

3. to act like a bull in a china shop

4. to be a chicken

1. The children had planned to play a trick on the teacher, but because the class was so quiet and attentive she smell a rat.

2. I always do my homework after midnight. I just concentrate better at that time. I guess I'm a night owl.

3. Careful! You're so clumsy. You're knocking everything  off the table. You're like a bull in a china shop.

4. Rudy didn't go on the roller coaster with us because he's afraid of high places. The ride is perfectly safe, though. We all thought he was being a chicken.

To smell a rat means to suspect that they are up to no good.

2. I always do my homework after midnight. I just concentrate better at that time. I guess I'm a night owl.
A night owl is someone who stays up at night.

3. Careful! You're so clumsy. You're knocking everything  off the table. You're like a bull in a china shop.
Can you imagine the mess a bull would make in a china shop, everything would be destroyed!

4. Rudy didn't go on the roller coaster with us because he's afraid of high places. The ride is perfectly safe, though. We all thought he was being a chicken.
If someone is chicken, they are afraid.
