Dear Sir of Madam,
I am writing in response to your recent advertisement for a Research Associate. Confident that I match your published profile, I would like to apply for this position. Attached, please find my curriculum vitae for your consideration.
I studied law at the University of Paris, France, where I graduated in 1999. Currently I am a criminal law researcher at the University of Hamburg [sp?], Germany. At the moment, I am pursuing my PhD on “trade-off in duress and necessity situations” concerning German and Spanish Law. My doctoral examination is scheduled for October 2005. Various research fellowships have financially supported my work five times. I belong to a French research group headed by professors from different universities in France and promoted by several institutions. This group maintains extensive relationships with other professors and researchers from around the world. Because of my membership in this group, I have had the opportunity to visit the universities of Toulouse, France, Buenos Aires, Argentina, and Hamburg, Germany, and do research for my doctorate in Criminal Law, under the direction of Professor Heinz , PhD (University of Waldorf) and Professor Rodriguez Rabanos, PhD (University of Pasamaneria).
As well as having relevant knowledge and experience, I believe I possess the personal qualities that you ask for in your advertisement. I have excellent communication and organizational skills. During the course of my PhD I have developed my skills in presenting results clearly and concisely. I cooperate as a volunteer at the UNESCO Office in the region of Catalugna, Spain, at the European Law Students' Association, at the Association for Future Education and at the Asociacion Argentina de Ciencias Penales (Argentine Association for Criminal Sciences). Therefore, I consider myself to be well suited for this position.
I am very interested in this position. It would be a great pleasure to work at the Mainzer Center at the University of Mainz and I am confident I would make a substantial and meaningful contribution to a constructive and debating atmosphere. I look forward to hearing from you about meeting for an interview at your convenience.
