A valve that connects the lower part of the small intestine and the upper part of the large intestine (ileum and cecum). Controls the flow of fluid in the intestines and prevents backflow.

Synonyms:  ileal papilla  : seen in the cadaver as a bilabial prominence of the terminal ileum protruding into the large intestine at the cecocolic junction; in the living individual, it appears as a truncated cone with a star-shaped orifice. Syn: Bauhin valve, ileocolic valve, papilla ilealis TA, ileocecal eminence, valva ileocecalis TA, valve of Varolius, Tulp valve, ileocecal valve
