I have two questions.

 

Question 1

I understand #1, #2, #3 and #5 is correct but #2 is incorrect.

 Is my understanding correct?

 

1He left for San Francisco.

2He left to San Francisco.

 

3He started (off) to San Francisco.

4He set off to San Francisco.

 

5The dog started (off) to its nest.

 

Question 2

I know #6, #7 and #8 is correct.

 Are #9 and #10 correct?

 

6He left New York for San Francisco.

7He started (off) from New York for San Francisco.

8He set off from New York for San Francisco.

 

9He started (off) from New York to San Francisco.

10He set off from New York to San Francisco.
