The ideas were gone down at the meeting. No, I'm sorry, I can't even guess what you meant.

She was gone down the stairs. No, either She has gone down the stairs or She went down the stairs.

The company has gone under because they got into too much debt. or went under

The tree was gone under by many people, because of the heat. No. Many people stood under the tree, or sat under the tree.

Her Spanish was picken up while she was travelling Latin America. She picked up her Spanish - it doesn't work in the passive.

The flowers were picken up by a girl.

thank you for your answers...so I used these sentences completely wrong then.I would like to ask you now to form some sentences for me,please. I will explain what I mean exactly.

We said at our lectures that passive can be used with prepositional verbs only when they have idiomatic or metaphorical meaning. For example:

The problem was gone into by the ingeneers.(correct)

The tunnel was gone into by the ingeneers.(wrong)

or

The expected result was arrived at.(correct)

The splendid stadium was arrived at.(wrong)

Now we have to provide sentences of our own and this is what I tried with the previous sentences. I obviously did them completely wrong. Could you provide some examples for me, please.

Mateja,

You posted this thread twiced. Go to the other post in which I answered you questions.

The expected result was due to arrive arrived at.....(certain time, like 3:00pm)

The splendid stadium was arrived at.(wrong)   can't understand the context.

Barbara, I think you missed that error.

Does the "up" not look crossed out to you? It shows up as clearly crossed out on my screen.

The error was crossed out by the editor.

And now that I think about it, "picked up" is okay in the sense of "she went to the store to get them."

What happened to the bride's flowers? The flowers were picked up by the bridesmaid.
