Mike in Japan is right. Sometimes context is important. However, if we can say "to wish for peace", why can't we say "to wish for the moon"? Smile [:)]

Remember you can also say "to reach for the moon" in the sense of to desire or attempt something unattainable or difficult to obtain.

Also;
"Reach!," short for "reach for the sky" meaning - put your hands up and away from your guns. You may hear this one in American cowboy movies.Movie [~]

Isn't a moon when you pull down your pants and show your butt like in the Braveheart movie?
Maybe that is what they want when they ask for a 'Moon'Wink [;)]

I look the phrase up in the dictionary, and I find that ask for the moon and cry for the moon are the same. They both mean that someone pursuit the impossible thing.
