Hello all,
I am walking in a dog-walk a thon for Gilda's Club in Octoiber. I would like to write to some companies in my area, possibly even mine and my husbands employers. Does anyone have a sample letter? It's only the 2 of us so we con only wear 2 shirts with someones logo on them. I would be asking for a small donation, maybe up to $100.00 per compnay. But I cant promise that I can get their name out there, and that is what they want. Anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Keely

Gilda's Club is a high profile organisation. Of course you know about the wonderful work members do, but for the rest of us:
Gilda's Club is a welcoming meeting place where men, women and children with cancer, and their family and friends, can join with others to build social and emotional support as an essential supplement to medical care. Membership and our program are free of charge. We offer support and networking groups, lectures, workshops and social events in our warm, home-like clubhouse.
Though I can’t write a decent letter for you just now, please be patient and I, or another one of Santa’s helpers, will get busy very soon.

Lesson One: Many Sounds In English Are Not In Your Native Language
It is likely that some of the sounds that are common in English are not used in your native language. The most common ones are ' r ' as in ' r ight', ' l ' as in ' l ight' and the ' th ' sound as in '...

Here in Sydney, Cancer support groups are very well respected. I enjoy a day on the harbour every year that’s organized by ‘Sail for Cancer’. People donate their yachts for the day, we hunker down and break out treats from overcrowded picnic baskets.
Gilda’s is mainly in the US isn’t it? I had a very quick look at the site for the Chicago chapter. The site is very well presented and I’m sure you’ve got a very strong chance to lobby for sponsorship.
How can I help? Could you tell me which city you’re in? I’d be happy to assist with thinking about a successful letter.

I think it is just in the US. I appreciate all of your help. Most of the letter out there are pledge sheets. I cannot find anything to help me ask for this. Thank you for all of your help.

I hope you won’t think I’m trying to be funny here. Could you dress the dog in a coat and fix advertising to the dog? Have you considered different levels of sponsorship; more for a t shirt, less for the dog, something for a mention on Gilda’s website? Could you perhaps trade a cute Avon bubble bath in the shape of a dog for a $100 sponsorship? Maybe that sounds crazy but perhaps it’s good to think outside the square.
I find this a difficult problem. Without making some kind of token trade, cash for an advertising opportunity or a Gilda’s badge, it’s a little tricky.

Elisa,
How about as a start, you answer the questions? Then perhaps we can begin to draft your letter. Also, be sure to download the cover sheet and address any questions there.
MountainHiker
1 Proposal - Be sure to include all relevant information in an obvious place on your proposal - Like the front cover (name, team name, mailing address, phone number, and email)
2 Proposal - Be specific regarding the size of your team and what class/events you will be racing.
3 Proposal - ASK don't demand. Do not include a contract you expect us to sign.
4 Proposal - Pictures are a good way to help us put a face to the names.
5 Proposal - A simple, well organized proposal is better than an expensive flashy one that lacks key information.
6 Proposal - Clearly note if you are affiliated with a shop. Bonus if that shop is a Ritchey Program dealer.
7 Note that most teams only get offered Pro Deal Pricing in their first year of Ritchey sponsorship.
8 If you are offered sponsorship, take the time to understand all the rules and regulations in the sponsorship packet. This packet will answer most, if not all questions, explain the deadlines that must be met and the rules that must be followed to order and receive product. Failure to do so may result you or your team not receiving the requested product.
9 Ritchey sponsors athletes primarily to win customers and not necessarily to win races.
10 All email sponsorship requests will be ignored.
11 Adding junior or female riders to your team will improve your chances of receiving sponsorship.
12 If you are an individual racer, consider joining or creating a team. We much prefer sponsoring a team of five athletes over sponsoring five individuals.
13 Ritchey sponsorship is not a bike shop. We cannot assist you in chosing your components. If you need help chosing product or need a high level of service visit your local bike shop. We do not do exchanges on sponsorship items. |
