Hi,
I've two questions.
1. I've often come across the words,Assessment and test, written together (i.e. Assessment test).. Is it correct to use them together, though they both mean the same? If so, what's the difference between "assessment" and "assessment test". 'To assess 'basically means 'to evaluate'. Let me offer a concrete example. If a new student comes to my school, I have to decide what level/class this student should be placed in. In other words, I have to perform an assessment of his English language ability. I can do this by giving the student a test (ie an assessment test), or just by talking to him and lisetening to him.
2. I've got to make an exam paper which contains each and everything done throughout the course. Can I say it's a "summative assessment", or should I say it's a "grand assessment", "grand assessment test", or something else?
I've to use it as a heading. Is it not possible to keep things simple, and just call it a 'final exam', or a 'year-end exam'?
I prefer the word 'exam' for what you are describing, becuase a 'test' suggests something of less size and less importance.
Wikipedia goes;" Summative assessment - Summative assessment is generally carried out at the end of a course or project. In an educational setting, summative assessments are typically used to assign students a course grade."
Best wishes, Clive
