Japan is prone to earthquakes because it sits [atop/on top of/on the top of/on
the tops of] four tectonic plates.

Are they all correct? I would like to understand how a native speaker interpret them
if possible.
Thanks in advance!

.
I suppose that the grammar is correct for all, but I would only consider:

Japan is prone to earthquakes because it sits [atop/on top of] four tectonic plates.

'The question is,' said Humpty Dumpty, 'which is to be master-- that's all.'
