One way to avoid being tricked/cheated/fooled by Internet scams is never to click on web links in emails you receive.

Does the above sample sound right? If yes, do all of the underlined words work with it and convey the same meaning? Thanks.

Hi,

One way to avoid being tricked/cheated/fooled by Internet scams is never to click on web links in emails you receive.

Does the above sample sound right? Yes, except for 'cheated'.

If yes, do all of the underlined words work with it and convey the same meaning?

In this context, there is not a lot of difference between 'tricked' and 'fooled'. Perhaps 'fooled' sounds a bit more serious and it may suggest a longer period of time.

'Cheated'. A person cheats you. A scam doesn't. I'd prefer to say   One way to avoid being cheated (by someone) via Internet scams . . . '
