When people use "beat" for human, do they exactly mean about the pulse?

So, please check out the sentence:

When they pulled the woman out of the freezing lake, her______ was very weak but she was still alive

a) beat

b) pulse

c)measure

d)thump

What is the correct answer?

Hi
i think the right answer is
B) pulse

the difference b\t beat & pulse is
beat is coming from heart
and pulse is from the arteties

( if you want to chick if somebody is alive or not , you put your finger on his neck to see if there is pulse or no )

You wouldn't use 'beat' on its own for this, it is alway heartbeat.
