Watching the LFC channel on Sky tonight and saw Sami's last game brought a tear to my eye when he couldn't control himself and started to cry. Enough of that, what really *** me off was, just before the end, people were leaving! This was their chance to see of a legend and they couldn't be bothered to stay behind him to give him the send off he truly deserves just to beat the traffic. I know this happens a lot but it was the last game of the season, I would have loved to have been there, seems that a lot of tickets are going to waste

I'm unsure what "beat the traffic" really means here. I'd be satisfied if someone here could help me to understand it.

Thanks, DAL

The phrase "beat the traffic" means to leave an event before everyone else so as to avoid the congestion caused when the event ends.
