I love the fact that any positive reporting re: this administration is characterized as sucking up to Bush. I have a hard time squaring that with the last ...

Would you explain the boldtext?

Thank you

Suck up: a kind of Slang phrasal verb.
It means "to obey" "being obedient"

"squaring"==> I don't know this word in this sentence. Please, rewrite that sentence completely.

Hi,

I love the fact that any positive reporting re: this administration is characterized as sucking up to Bush. I have a hard time squaring that with the last ...

Would you explain the boldtext?

sucking up to someone To try to make someone like you, by obvious and obsequious methods and flattery. eg In the meeting, did you see how Tom laughed loudly at all the boss's feeble little jokes? And he said that all the boss's impractical ideas were wonderful. He's just sucking up to the boss to get a promotion.

squaring To reconcile, to see as compatible. eg  Tom tells Mary he loves her, but he has many other girl-friends. Mary can't square Tom's words with his behaviour.

Best wishes, Clive
