And he said that all the boss's impractical ideas were wonderful. He's just sucking up to the boss to get a promotion. squaring To reconcile, to see as compatible. eg  Tom tells Mary he loves her, but he has many other girl-friends. Mary can't square Tom's words with his behaviour.
