I think Business English teachers should be familiarized with marketing terminology/problems. You must feel/ appear professional if you teach BE to a manager!
An idea for a class on a Business English class on advertising (pre-intermediate and upper):
Presentation:
Let's talk about "brand loyalty".
The level of consumers' attitude differ. The stages of "brand loyalty" are:
1.No brand loyalty.
2.Customer is satisfied. No reason to change the brand.
3. Customer is satisfied and would incur costs by changing brand.
4. Customer sees the brand as a friend.
5. Customer is devoted to the brand.
Language production:
You can ask your student: How many of your clients are on the 5th level? And how many on the first?
You can ask your student to present the change in the number of customers (the 5 types) of a company, in the last 5 years. (e.g. In 2003 there were no customers devoted to the brand but about 10% of all saw the brand as a friend. About 25%...
You can discuss then about how "loyal"you and your students are to some brands- you can use company websites, of course, if you have internet connection, or pictures of products.
N-joy the class!
