IS "down" here an adverb?

'Calm down' is a phrasal verb. 'We calmed the horse down with a sedative.' (You remember the difference between phrasal verbs and prepostional verbs, don't you, Hanuman?)

Phrasal verb= verb+adverb
Prepositional verb=verb+preposition.
I remember this one was teached by you.
