I'm quite confuse with the auxiliaries "Can, Could, May, and others you can named it". I will list a few examples. Could you do me a favor? Can you do me a favor? May I go back home early today? Can I go back home early today? Could I go back home early today? Could we use your pool? Can we use your pool? May we use your pool? I was told that "may" is used when asking for permission, however a lot of situations also seems like asking for permissions as well. Can anyone clarify for me? Emm.. perhaps could anyone clarify for me?

As far as I know, "could" is used in a polite way and more formal, unlike "can"
