First off I'm a high school student. I wrote this essay not for a grade, but as a way to show some people in my class how I feel about how sexist they are. Please tell me if this is okay, thank you.

Feminism

Feminism: the doctrine advocating social, political, and all other rights of women equal to those of men

In today’s society, women are still classed below men. Men believe in them being the ultimate gender. Women however, believe differently. Some do agree with the men, while others believe we are all equal, and even some women believe we are the supreme gender. In my eyes, we are all equal, but it will take a lot, for the society now to see this.

Sojourner Truth; is one of the most well known feminist in history. Sojourner, was born into slavery, but eventually freed. She knew the hardships of being a slave, and being a woman.

Her famous speech, Ain’t I a Woman? Tells of the hardships women once had to go through. Women today, still can’t hold certain jobs, or do certain things, because of gender inequality.

There are many women and even some men that have helped bring women’s rights to power. It took over one hundred years, just for women in the United States, to be recognized as equals. To men they were property, even more so then slaves, which they believed to be the lowest thing on the social scale.

In 1920, the Nineteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution was ratified. This amendment states, that neither an individual state nor the federal government can deny a citizen the right to vote because of the citizen’s gender.

This was one of the first steps in the American government towards the feminism movement. However, while women continue to rise into the belief of them being equal to man, there are still some that are majorly against it.

In today’s schools, there are still anti-feminist, children that have grown up in a time where women are believed to be equal, still believe women are below them, that they are not equal.

A man will say, I can do anything better than a women. My response is, I want to see you go through fifteen hours of labor, have a child. I may not be a mother, but I have heard the stories. That is something women can do, and there are lots more that a woman can do that a man can’t.

There will always be anti-feminist around, but it takes just one person, just one, to change another’s mind. I believe in the feminism movement, not just because I am a female, but because it is right and true.
