Ofcourse, full time mom has got more works than full time dads. She has lots of additional works which are unique to women.

I beg to differ that there is any 'work' which should be considered 'unique' to women. I would like you to elaborate on this further Praveen... Is your reference to rearing children, cleaning the house and the like? I have a few friends who are from different countries and cultures and they are stay-at-home-dads. They do everything from taking trash out, folding wife's clothes to washing poop of the kids. And they do it as a routine duty and don't once crib about it. A couple of them have even taken this up voluntarily. And believe me, almost all of these men I am talking about are not sitting idle either, they r either pursueing their studies or working from home. So they r doing double work too.

Dear Anita,

Ofcourse I agree with all your points. I'm not againt men doing "house" jobs.

Since I'm in India, the culture here is quite different. Mostly men go for job and women are house wifes. But the situation has dramatically improved with more women moving out for jobs. Even there are men who help their spouse to get the work done. But that kind of men are few. That's my point.

It all depends on the culture in one's country.

Oh boy!  Don't get me started on that one!

I'm a modern western and -yes I'm not ashamed of the word feminist - woman in a relationship with a man from a different culture where basically the women wait on the men hand and foot in a really disgusting (to me) way.  He is not quite that bad but we are always arguing over the washing up and things...he is adamant that there are some things that men just 'don't do'....and he thinks I'm the weird one and won't believe me when I say this is not usual in my culture! Arggggh!  I make allowances because he can't help it I suppose, but it does cause a lot of friction.

It seems a bit disproportionate for anyone to devote all his or her time to being a 'homemaker'.

And do you ever believe it, when someone tells you how hard he or she works, whether it's as a housewife, househusband, or office drone?

Caveat emptor.

Yes. That is possible. Nowadays, its not really a big deal. What women can, men can do it also...

Besides, you have to be practical. If the wife is earning more, then it's acceptable for men to stay home. Wink [;)]

I'm not so sure.

At one end of the scale, home = a 1-bedroom flat and no children. At the other, 12 children and 23 bedrooms.

Probably not; but that doesn't mean it isn't true.
