Statement 1:
The University values an educational environment that provides all members of the campus community with opportunities to grow and develop intellectually, personally, culturally and socially. In order to give us a more complete picture of you as an individual, please tell us about the particular life experiences, perspectives, talents, commitments and/or interests you will bring to our campus. In other words, how will your presence enrich our community?
I am a man of honesty, happiness, even ifs trash night and its –10 degrees outside! A person who will lighten a room with laughter and bring a nice hot cup of soup if you’re sick :). More importantly, I am here to show my life greatnesses, and parts of me that stand out from others. Showing I am more prepared and ready than those other’s in my same position. Well my life has been a surprise to say the least. I am in programs outside of school that not many students are apart of. Even recently I’ve had moments that pull me apart from the people around me. Well sit back, grab a cup of Joe or hot coco, and prepare your “accepted” stamp, at least that’s what I hope for :).
Gosh, my life, where does someone begin? Well to first understand how hard I’ve worked to get where I am today is to picture one thing. Working harder than the friends around me to get grades that didn’t reflect my devotion to school. After 17 years of no explanation of why I was getting average grades, I was tested at my High school, Brookfield Central. The physiologists found I had symptoms of Dyslexia, along with short-term memory loss. That was resulting in a form of ADHD. Imagine a life were you give it your all. Late nights in a dark room with the reading lamp on and piles of books and papers surrounded you. Going in before school, and after school. Even enrolled in a special study hall with tutors on hand, only to receive average grades. I know you’ve experienced sitting in a quite classroom, taking a math test to forget every formula on the test. That happens to me more often than it should. That is how hard I work in life to get results that don’t show this type of work. Out of school is where my inner self shines. Because study shows that patients with dyslexia have a better creativity mind.
When that last hour bell rings is when I show my real commitments and talents that number pushing and late night readings wont seem to show. Ever since I was 15 I was a working man. Since than I’ve worked in array of different fields. Need your lawn cut, or a wall put up? What about needing assistance on which seafood or meat products are good? Even if you need a good full detail job for your car, I can do it. I own 2 sole Proprietorships. The first is Hoffmasters Detailing service, and Hoffmasters 5 speed manual learning program. Both are very successful! Most important to me is my time I give to further my learning in law enforcement. Every 1st and 3rd Sunday of a month I devote 3 hours of my time to sheriffs in my county to learn and educate myself further to hope that one day I can patrol the streets. Maybe I’ll even save your life:). On top of that, I’ve been on ride along’s with police officers to get a real understanding of there profession. With that, I know that I am more prepared for college and the major I am going into, than the others that are fighting for a spot. In all honestly, I deserve this more. but wait! There’s more! (like those people in the info commercials :))
To insure your making the right decision, which if you accept me you are, I’d like to tell you the special things from me. I’d like to say I have changed over the years. With the new discovery of my dyslexia has turned my life in a complete 180. I can truly understand the hard work that many put forth. I give everyone a second chance. This way people have a chance to correct their mistake. I am a jolly good man that has this ability to make anyone laugh when I don’t even try. I can make a sad moment turn into joy.
My life is different than any others. Getting through school and not knowing about my dyslexia is quite a challenge that I concurred. I believe that if I can overcome this disability for 17 years, I can complete the challenge of being apart of your college. Because if I went through high school working as hard as I did, I could easily become a great student and your university and represent you like your university should be.
