Dear Representative Miller:
As one of your constituents, I am writing to express my support for H.R. 2427, the Gutknecht-Emerson Bill. I believe that the United States should allow
importation of prescription drugs. If this bill were passed, prescription drugs would be less expensive, and more accessible to
many Americans, especially those older Americans who cannot afford expensive prescription drugs that need to be continually refilled.
Some seniors (in order to save money) are traveling back and forth to Canada to purchase their prescriptions. The prescriptions made in Canada- as well as in many
European countries- are produced in FDA approved facilities. Many Americans are concerned that H.R. 2427 will lead to the importation of unsafe drugs, but that is not
true. According to the Congressional Research Service, “Through long established GMPs (Good Manufacturing
Practices), both countries (the United States and Canada) mandate strict quality controls, testing standards, and thorough inspections to ensure
the safety and efficacy of prescription drugs.” I want to thank you for allowing me the opportunity to write to you about
this issue, and I would appreciate your support on this important issue.
Sincerely,
