Peace be upon u ..

You know that at the top of the page , there are  welcoming words ,

then comes the

word ( log out ) and finally , the word ( Faq ) ..

All I want to ask about it is ..

Why is there a blinking  sign of a yellow envelope following my

name ??

I know that it refers to  unread messages ..

But .. Why - when I press and log into the message box - can't I find

any messages ??

Yes .. I always find nothing at all !!

Is that a drawback concerning my settings or WHAT ??

Please .. Help me ..

Thanks alot ..

Hello Eagle

It sounds rather mysterious.

Click on Private Messages. If there are no messages on view, scroll down to the bottom of the page and check that "date filter" says "show all".

If no message appears, try logging out and logging in again.

If that doesn't work, try deleting your EnglishForums cookie (let me know if you're not sure where to find it).

If that doesn't work, let us know, and we'll all stand round scratching our beards and looking very thoughtful...

Hello, Ancestral Eagle

We'll need a mechanic to find out why the envelope is blinking, but if there's nothing in your Private Messages, then you have none.  I see nothing wrong with the settings of yours that I have access to.  Have you received PMs in the past?

If no message appears, try logging out and logging in again.

Anyway , I'll try ..

Dear MM .. So why ,then, is the envelope still blinking ??

Has this ever happened to you ??

Have you received PMs in the past?

Only one , just today from Mr Pedantic .. as a test for this current problem ..

But before that , since joining , I recieved nothing ..

Thanks Mister Micawber for your nice words and help ..

We've sent for help, Ancestral Eagle.  If the traffic is not too bad, it should arrive soon.  Hang in there!

Traffic was pretty heavy.

Try refreshing the page. It should go away.

Hmm.  Now it seems to be happening to me, but refreshing the page does not help.  I think it may be associated with a PM that Nilla sent me, and which she then deleted at her end before I could check my PM box.  (That is, I received notification by email, but when I got here there was nothing in the box, even though the envelope was (and is) blinking merrily.)
