Hello,
if beginning a sentence with only the last name of someone such as Leonardo da Vinci, Leonardo di Caprio, Lope de Vega, et c., do you maintain the first part of the name in lower case:

da Vinci painted the Mona Lisa.
or
Da Vinci painted the Mona Lisa.

Thanks

Rules of capitalization:

Titles (movies, books, businesses) i.e. IBM, Google, Yahoo and etc.

First word in a sentence

Oneself as a subject in a sentence, i.e. Your idea is good which I will consider.

Proper names – i.e. New York, Untied States of America. Mr. Lee, McDonalds etc.

Hi,
I think reasonably literate native speakers/writers would tend to avoid the problem by wording it differently,
eg The Mona Lisa was painted by da Vinci.

Best wishes, Clive
