No, you merely copy the letter and put a check mark by the cc name and address the envelope to the copied person.

No - Traditionally, cc referred to a carbon copy of the original letter therefore, the original letter and the 'carbonated copy' where the same apart from the top copy being typed on letter head and the copy or copies created with carbon paper on to plain copy paper.

 

One would then tick the name of the person as it appeared on the bottom of the letter

 

i.e.   cc  Mary Smith [tick symbol]

 

... and they would receive that carbonated copy on flimsy plain white/coloured paper.
