A show host tells the contestants to set down food in their hands.

What is in your mouth, you can finish it. What's in your hands, please put [it/them] down.

Which choice is correct? Are there any mistakes? I know the construction is not suitable for an essay but I believe this type of construction is common in casual speech. Please correct me if I'm wong.

This doesn't strike me as something a native speaker would say. Nevertheless, the answer is "put it down".
