The menu I currently have on my site is like this :

[ What Should I give here ]
        Shops
        Restaurants
        Hotels
        Health Clubs
        Educational
                Schools
                Colleges
                Institutions
        Worship
                Churches
                Mosques
                Temples
        Parks
        More

Are there other sections in the directory? How are you deciding what goes in which section? If this is the whole directory just call it 'Directory'.

If you have several sections or directories I wouldn't lump commercial organisations such as shops and restaurants (Businesses) with non-commercial ones such as churches and parks.

The name says it all.

Yes, there would be a whole lot of other sections. Basically, its a search for these within this city.
Users should be able to search for all sorts of buildings, organizations, temples, shops etc.
Would local suite it better instead ?

A building housing an educational institution could be called an institute.

IMO, Institution is too inclusive to be laid there.

Also, for many, temples should be synagogues.

Barbara, who answers in American English. My housekeeping skills attest to the truth of the second law of thermodynamics: Left to themselves, things get more and more random!

Looking at WordWeb :
synagogues - (Judaism) the place of worship for a Jewish congregation
Added to my Worship list but not replaced temples with synagogues - here, a temple is normally considered as a worship place for Hindus.

Oh, I'm so sorry. Again, my own cultural upbringing influenced me. I was assuming you meant Jewish places of worship. I promise, one of these days I *WILL* remember that the U.S. is not the center of the universe. Of course there would be other types of temples. Embarrassed [:$]
