Hello!

Can you please tell me what is it '' fake chain-mail underwear''?

Thank you

p.s. it's in the context of actor's costume, actor playing Claudius (Hamlet). It looks as its meaning is ironical.

Hi,

Briefly, chain-mail is a flexible form of armour, made by joining small rings of metal.

That woild make uncomfortable underwear. I think the reference is probably meant as ironic humour: 'the actor's chainmail costume looks and fits a bit like he is just wearing underwear'.

Best wishes, Clive

Dear Clive,

Thank you very much. This must be it.I'll translate it descriptively.

Or perhaps a 'marital aid'.

I hope there's no such thing as "platemail underwear". Stick out tongue [:P]

How careless of me. I meant 'martial aid', of course.

You are pulling my leg, aren't you Mister P?

Well, on reflection, it might be used for both, of course. Perhaps simultaneously.

(Not that I mean to intrude on what other members do in the privacy of their own homes.)
